Run chicken RUN!

I am officially a volunteer. Woohoo! My site is a small town of less than 2,000 people, and currently I am working in 3 schools, with 8 sections of classes throughout the week. Pretty exciting stuff eh? Currently, I am just adjusting to my new surroundings, so not much to report. Today I went to one of the major cities to go the the bank and have lunch with a friend... in an air conditioned environment. It was glorious! I will never underestimate air conditioning and toilets again. I have attached some pictures of my new place. There`s the chicken that tried to run away (silly chicken), my room and closet (rope running the length of my room), my shower and bathroom (bucket with water and latrine), and a little artsy goodness. Enjoy and I will fill you in on the details when they happen. Love and miss you all. Remember to smile, always. aleia

  1. Hey you 'PC Volunteer'.....Sounds like you are staying more than busy these days. How much, would you say, has your Spanish improved overall? Do I remember right that your school year ends in December? Ref your chicken picture, why wouldn't it run away.....it knows it will be dinner someday. Have it call the local 'PETA' office. Ha Ha!! Glad to hear that you can link up with a friend now and then. What do you do in your free time? Enjoy it all. Stay safe and stay aware. LOVE YOU.......gp Mike

  2. Hola Aleia: I love the new surroundings!! The chicken will most likely become dinner as your gp Mike stated. Is the water near you so you can wash your clothes? Enjoy your experience and keep the pictures and stories coming. Love you much!! Grandma & Grandpa C.

  3. Grandpa Mike - My spanish level started at novice-mid, and now I am at intermediate-mid if that gives you any indication. I can have conversations, but a lot of times I get confused. Yes the school year ends at the end of November, and I have December and January off. In my free time I read, go to the river, or just go outside and sit in a rocking chair. Love you!
Grandma Corben - Yes their is a faucet-type thing that often has water, so I can wash my clothes in the backyard. The water is stored, but there is also a river in case you can´t get water. Love you too!

  4. Please, for your own good, do not name the chicken, it is very hard to eat when the conversation goes, "Hey, i wanted Ralph's left leg!" Nice pics, now I know what's up. I would spend time writing poetry about the "lazy river" or taking those intriguing photos of "the fence that wouldn't come in out of the rain" Can you take photos of the familia? just curious. Well, love you, smile lots to keep them guessing!
