Catarina!

Buenas!
Catarina is beautiful!!! Flowers, el parque, and 2 pharmacies just for me!!! yessssss. Everything is going well. My host family is extremely nice. Gloria, my host mother, is in her 60´s and is very in tune to people´s emotions, which is good since we don´t speak the same language yet. Manuel, her husband, speaks extremely slow spanish so I can understand him. Also, there is an 8 year-old granddaughter who I have dubbed my maestra (teacher). Her teachings consist of multiple games of tick-tack-toe and hangman, so obviously I´m ennjoying my time. I am still not used to bucket baths, but don´t mind the cold water because it´s fracken hot here! I have spanish classes each day of the week, I start a small youth group project this week (but have to find the youth), and I have to present myself to a classroom to begin teaching a component of La Empresa Creativa. They keep me busy, but busy is good. Still no pictures, but soon to come. I should be able to update this once a week. If you have any questions, feel free to post, and I will get to them ASAP.

Love to all,
Aleia

  1. Hey Aleia.....The adventure in underway!!! Better a 'bucket bath' than a 'bucket list'. Where were you able to get your computer access for your most recent blog posting? Does your host family have a good guess how long mail takes between our two countries. The US Postal service says only "times vary". Just a ballpark figure is fine. Be good and enjoy it all. Many thanks to your host family!!! LOVE YOU......gpMike

  2. Well, I am glad to hear that things are going smoothly! I feel like in my head until I get pictures, that your host mother is this tiny sweet little lady, who has clearly eaten well in her life, and has this air of "the wisest person in the world" and she could bestow this great wonderful wisdom on you, but alas you can not completely and easily understand her. All you can apparently do is look into her wise face and say "damnit." Haha I make myself laugh! Well Mike and I will come up with some sweet stuff to send you, but we need to know restrictions, like no food (or do you want the sweet comfort that only cheeze-its and gummy bears can bring) or just a refill journal (that is green friendly)? Let me know because either way I am sending you something so you might as well give me some direction, or you know exactly what will be in that box!!!!! ;) hehehehehe

Love ya, (and yes again obviously this is Amanda, I was logged in this time)

  5. Gpa Mike - takes anywhere from 10 days for a simple letter, to 6 weeks for a package. But packages often get stolen, so beware. there is a cyber cafe in town that costs 12 cordobas per hour.
Amanda - haha. you´re vision is quite accurate really. hopefully next time i can upload pics. Also, all of those things that you mentioned sound fantastic. Also maybe a nice pair of old navy $3 flip flops would be nice. I´m a size 7 ;)
Dad - very nice =) Love you
Mom - muhuhuhaha. yes, i´m definitely spreading something over this hot country. mostly my germs, but also my humor (in small doses). Love you!
